Faster internet is on its way to Church Street

This month work started to install gigabit fibre optic on Church Street, which will improve internet speeds for residents, traders and businesses. This is an investment led by the council as part of the Market Strategy, helping traders to use cashless payments.

Once the upgrade in Church Street has been completed, over 4000 homes and businesses in the local area will have access to gigabit fibre optic. In addition to this, the works will enable market traders and customers to access free and fast WiFi whilst on Church Street later this year.

The works began on Monday 13 July, will finish in mid-August and will be carried out over three phases:

  1. Between Lisson Grove and Ashbridge Street from Monday 13 - Friday 18 July. Please note that there may be some disruption to access and parking.
  2. Between Edgware Road and Penfold Street from Monday 20 - Friday 24 July and Monday 27 - Wednesday 29 July
  3. Between Penfold Street and Salisbury Street from Monday 3 - Friday 7 August and Monday 10 - Wednesday 12 August

There is likely to be some disruption during the works, however measures have been put in place to reduce noise and minimise disruption to residents and traders. Some traders will have to temporarily move during this time, but all market stalls will still be available throughout.

Acoustic sound barriers will be used, the works site will be cleaned on a regular basis and works will not take place on a Saturday.
