Newpin Voleneteer Team v2

Church Street Newsletter August 2024

The Regeneration Team Has a New Home

We have now moved to 56 Church Street. Before we moved in, we invited residents to an open day. We asked for suggestions on how to make new ‘Regeneration Space’ more welcoming and useful.

We had many great suggestions and look forward to making this new space the heart of Church Street’s regeneration.

We look forward to seeing you at 56 Church Street

Newpin Gets Make Over

As part of our shared commitment to social value with the local community, Mount Anvil and WCC’s Regeneration and Development team volunteered to give Newpin nursey and drop in a much-welcomed makeover.

On what turned out to be the hottest day of the year, the team painted the nursery and installed new planters at the front.

Hoarding Artwork on Site A

While the hoardings are essential in keeping everyone safe, we want them to be more than that. We want them to reflect the spirit, creativity and identity of Church Street. As we get closer to the start of demolition, we will hold workshops with residents, stakeholders and local businesses.

At these workshops, artists and designers will work with the community to create artwork for the hoarding. If you want to find out more or get involved, please contact Sola from Mount Anvil by emailing
sitea@mountanvil.com. Also, why not come to one of our upcoming events and register your interest to attend future workshops.

  • 11 September – 4pm to 7.30pm at 56 Church Street.
  • 19 September – 10am to 2pm at Church Street Market

Regeneration Spotlight On...

Sarah is one of the employment coaches based in the ‘Regeneration Space’. Sarah’s job is to support Church Street residents in getting back into work or finding a better role.

One of the many residents Sarah has helped back into work had the following to say about how she helped them:
“Sarah was brilliant. She told me what to do. She helped me do it. Sarah assisted me in contacting the necessary departments, i.e., council tax, personal independence payments, housing, etc. Just having Sarah help me was a weight off my shoulders, as I desperately needed support from someone who has compassion.”

As soon as the foundations of support were in place, Sarah quickly shifted her focus onto helping the resident get back into work. She helped her to identify and apply to suitable jobs, tailored her CV and cover letter towards specific roles and gave her interview preparation advice and guidance.

In July 2023, our resident secured a parttime role and soon after was promoted to full-time, earning £32k a year.
“Sarah helped me more than she knows. Westminster City Council is lucky to have such a beautiful soul working for them.”

Sarah and the other Church Street-based employment coaches are based in Regeneration Space on Monday to Thursday, 9am to 5pm.

Westminster residents can get further information or register for our support, emailing:
